Primary Cell & Immunocyte

Primary Cells are cells obtained directly after isolation from tissue or blood; they retain key characteristics of their parental tissue and thus have better physiological relevance and greater in-vivo predictive values. Therefore, primary cells are essential for the translation of basic research to preclinical/clinical applications.

However, primary cells usually have a limited lifespan and often require specific nutrients (e.g., cytokines and growth factors) at exact concentrations, a limitation when evaluating metabolism for low turnover drug candidate with primary hepatocyte.  IPHASE developed two enhanced culture system: HepatoMaxTM and HepatoConTM. The HepatoMaxTM system is a co-culture system comprising hepatocytes and stromal cells, while the HepatoConTM system consists of hepatocytes only with a full defined culture medium. Each system, with its unique optimal culture condition, can support primary hepatocyte culture for over 2 weeks.
